Forks Washington Fly Fishing - As for a Forks Washington Fly Shop, waters west in Port Angeles is the closest one. The steelhead fly fishing in Forks Washington is the best for the big native winter run steelhead in the lower 48. Forks is a fairly short drive from Seattle. From Forks, We fish the Sol Duc River, the Hoh River, The Bogachiel River, the Calawah River, and the Queets River for winter steelhead in Washington.
Spey Fishing For Steelhead in the Pacific Northwest - For steelhead in the pacific northwest we do a lot of swinging flies for winter steelhead. The best way to swing flies for steelhead on the big coastal rivers is with a spey rod. The rivers near Forks, Washington on the Olympic Peninsula are perfect for using spey rods. The smaller streams like the Sol Duc and Calawah get large steelhead, but are fairly narrow in size so a 7-8wt spey rod will do the trick. But, on the bigger rivers such as the Hoh, Bogachiel, or Queets a 13'6" or longer 8-9wt spey rod will be the rod of choice. You will need to be able to toss big flies long distances with a heavy sink tip to effectively fish some of the runs.
